Two MOOCs offered in collaboration with Athabasca University

To support teacher transition to the new demands generated by the COVID-19 crisis, COL and Athabasca University (AU), Canada are offering two massive open online courses (MOOCs) on online learning.

The popular MOOC on Introduction to Technology-Enabled Learning, which was originally planned for September 2020 will now start on 5 April 2020 as TELMOOC5. Designed for teachers in secondary, post-secondary and vocational education, it aims to develop their knowledge and practice in teaching and learning with technology.

The second MOOC on Blended Learning Practice will be available as BLPMOOC2 from 19 April 2020. It will provide guidance on adopting blended learning strategies through a step-by-step approach. Teachers in diverse contexts – primary and secondary education, post-secondary education, vocational education, and workplace training – who plan to use online teaching will benefit from this course.

The MOOCs will be led by AU’s Professor Martha Cleveland-Innes, with support from Dr Nathaniel Ostashewski and Mr Dan Wilton.

Participants in both MOOCs will undertake meaningful exercises, quizzes, and a short assignment to complete their experience and earn either a ‘Certificate of Completion’ or a ‘Certificate of Participation.’

“At a time when a large number of teachers and learners are home-bound due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we are grateful for this collaboration with AU that enabled us to respond quickly. We hope that teachers will take advantage of these MOOCs to strengthen their personal skills in support of their learners,” said COL’s Education Specialist: eLearning, Dr Sanjaya Mishra.
